This extremely challenging project involved the insertion of a new 4 storey steel and concrete framed structure within the existing 2nd floor atrium to create an extra 45,000 sq ft of floorspace. The new areas formed a new state of the art intensive care suite, clinical support spaces and modern bedrooms. Works were undertaken in a live environment with minimal disruption to the hospital.  Materials were installed via a single opening formed at 3rd floor level to reduce the impact on daily operations. The works were executed over 4 key phases with advanced handovers of the intensive care suite to allow the core business to be operational at the earliest date.

New services including air handling plant, electrical services, media and medical gas services were installed within the new structure and existing plant spaces, all to current HTM and HBN standards.
