Following on from the successful completion and handover of the St Francis Ward for the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, Collins were tasked with the refurbishment of the St Elizabeth Ward within the same building. This 13 week project took place within the live hospital and involved the complete strip out of walls and services and total rebuild of clinical areas and patient rooms.

As with the St Francis Ward, all 16 bedrooms and en suites were refurbished and all bathrooms transformed into modern wet rooms. Collins worked closely with the client to put forward a new design, including sourcing extra high toilets for orthopaedic patients.

This second phase also involved the refurbishment of various clinical areas including a fully compliant dirty utility and clinical room as well as large cleaner’s cupboards and separate staff and visitor facilities. The ward also benefitted from store rooms to keep all rehabilitation equipment out of the corridors and offices for staff meetings and teaching sessions.

Anti-slip flooring was installed through the project along with secondary glazing to reduce external noise and improve temperate control in each area. The reception area was completed with a bespoke Corian desk and modern art installations.
